HOW TO WASH THIS MATERIAL?
Tencel and linen clothes can be washed very well in the washing machine at 30° or 40°.
Hand washing is also entirely possible, just please avoid twisting or squeezing the fabric when spinning as this can damage the fibers.

Tencel is an anti-bacterial plant fiber, which means there is no need to over-wash it. Sometimes you just need to air it inside out. This allows you to limit washing and is therefore rather smart for the planet!

HOW TO DRY THIS MATERIAL?
The best way to dry Tencel and Linen is also the simplest: in the open air on a hanger! The big advantage of this solution, apart from its simplicity, is that there is no need to use a tumble dryer... And this is another energy saving and therefore an additional boost for the planet.

TENCEL MIXED WITH LINEN, A PERFECT COMBINATION!

In the beginning, there are the trees...

Cellulose is extracted from certain trees which are, in the majority of cases, planted for this purpose. For this, we use several species such as eucalyptus or bamboo. These tree species have the advantage of growing quickly and on poor soils which do not compete with traditional food crops (rice, wheat).

🌿 Tencel requires very little water during its manufacture, unlike the intensive irrigation system that cotton needs to grow (5000 liters of water to produce 1kg of cotton, less than 1000 liters for tencel)
Tencel produces 10 times more material than cotton, per cultivated hectare.

Once the wood cellulose is extracted from the trees, it is mixed with a non-toxic solvent in an attempt to dissolve it and make it spinnable.

This natural solvent (based on amine oxide) is 99.7% recovered during the manufacturing process. Which means it is not released into the environment. Lyocell therefore has a very low impact on the environment since it is produced in an almost closed loop circuit where the same solvent is constantly recycled!

Flax is a natural plant material grown mainly in temperate zones close to the sea (such as Belgium and the North of France). Renowned for its strength, its plant fiber is used both in textiles and in industry.

Linen is a natural fiber considered ecological, for several reasons. Flax cultivation requires little water and pesticides. The plant grows naturally thanks to the heat of the sun and rainwater, so it does not require any irrigation, unlike cotton for example.

Furthermore, the stages of linen manufacturing (scutching, spinning, weaving, making) consume little energy.

THE ADVANTAGES OF THE MATERIAL

In addition to the ecological advantages linked to its method of production, Lyocell also has the following great properties:
Tencel adapts to temperature variations. It dissipates heat when it is hot, letting the skin breathe. Conversely, the material retains heat when it is colder.
High moisture absorption, much better than cotton. Tencel is a great choice if you tend to sweat a lot, have sensitive skin, or live in a humid, rainy climate.
It does not crease easily because it is very light.
Lyocell fibers offer both strength and elasticity.
Very soft to the touch and is often called “plant silk”.
It is so smooth that it leaves no grip to external agents. Thus, bacteria cannot attach to the fabric, which limits the development of bad odors.
Lyocell is a versatile fiber and can be mixed with any other textile fiber (here linen). It is therefore very flexible and this is why it is increasingly sought after by manufacturers.

Linen has many advantages: light, resistant, absorbent. Its absorption capacity - (it can absorb up to 20% humidity) greater than that of cotton and makes it a material of choice during the summer. Linen brings natural freshness to clothes without becoming deformed.

THE PRICE

The Tencel manufacturing method uses a fairly specific technology which increases the cost of production, compared to cotton fabrics for example.

But it all depends on how we approach the question of price because, yes, Tencel is generally more expensive than other fabrics on the market. But, if we take into account its much greater durability, the cost of a Tencel Lyocell garment is ultimately not that expensive. To put it simply, a piece made from Tencel will probably last longer than its equivalent made from other materials.

With this in mind, the purchase of Tencel should be considered as an investment rather than a cost. And then, purchasing a quality, durable fabric with multiple properties like Lyocell is fully part of a slow fashion approach.

Linen is expensive because it is rare, its essentially French cultivation requires know-how and strict compliance with current regulations, and because it has incredible virtues.

When the fiber is harvested, it must pass through the expert hands of the spinning mills, in order to become a thread which will then be woven. This involves shooting much smaller footage, which does not allow for real economies of scale. This quality selection and rarity therefore undeniably increases the price of linen.

An ethical gift

To thank you and for your commitment to a better world, a nice surprise awaits you!
