Balenciaga, a designer who inspires us

Balenciaga is a Spanish luxury fashion house founded in 1919 by couturier Cristóbal Balenciaga. The house is known for its avant-garde designs and sculptural silhouettes.

Balenciaga was born in Getaria, Spain in 1895. He began his career as a fashion designer in Madrid, before moving to Paris in 1937. In Paris, Balenciaga quickly gained international fame for his innovative designs. He was one of the first couturiers to create ready-to-wear clothing, and he was also a pioneer in the use of new materials and techniques.

Balenciaga's designs are often described as sculptural and architectural. He was a master of cut and drape, and he created silhouettes that were both elegant and modern. Some of his most iconic designs include the bag Hourglass , the dress Babydoll and the trench coat The tuxedo .

Balenciaga retired in 1968, but the house continued to thrive under the leadership of other designers, including Oscar de la Renta, Hubert de Givenchy and Nicolas Ghesquière. In 2015, the house was bought by the Kering group.

The current artistic director of Balenciaga is Demna Gvasalia. Gvasalia is a Georgian designer who is known for his avant-garde approach to fashion. Under his leadership, Balenciaga continued to push the boundaries of creativity.
